People do not often give much thought to the registry in their computer. It doesn’t have a glamorous name like motherboard or a muscle name like processor. These people just might be surprised to learn that this central database contains volumes of information that the computer refers to every second of its operating life.
The registry is the under appreciated and critically necessary humble librarian of your computer. If it is bogged down or littered with unusable or inaccurate junk, your computer can crash with no warning. That being said, registry cleaner procedures and/or software should be high on the list for your next purchase.
The registry is responsible for configuration options regarding software, hardware, drivers and user preferences. The computer uses the values stored in the registry every single second. The more you install/uninstall/download applications, the more complex the database becomes.
As is the case with any database, the information inside it needs to be kept organised and fully up-to-date. Even though your computer can do many things, this is not one of them, so the computer needs your help.
We all want top performance from our PCs. This means, to most people, speed of performance and stability of the system. A registry cleaner will improve both by removing out dated, unused or leftover entries in the database. Perhaps you have downloaded a free timed game from online. When the time runs out, the game, although unusable without a purchase, is still on your computer. Even if you uninstall correctly, chances are there are still invalid references left in the registry. This happens particularly when you remove a program incorrectly, like dropping it in the recycle bin!
When you add up all those installs and uninstalls you’ve done on your machine you can see why your registry might be struggling. A registry repair tool will hunt down these invalid references and properly take care of them. You can find some free software and some costly software, the free ones are usually not very thorough and the pricey ones don’t always do what they say.
Just because your computer is new does not mean it will not benefit from a bit of assistance from you. If you are getting error messages, or your software does not seem to be running at peak, a messy registry is most likely the cause. Consider yourself warned. Give the librarian a break, and send in the brooms and dustpans!
