There is a truly dizzying array of options available when it comes to registry cleaners. Anyone who owns a computer should invest in one of these programs, as they can help you perform routine maintenance and keep your system humming smoothly along. Determining which program is right for you, though, can be daunting. Fortunately, there are three simple features that are essential and if you keep them in mind, you should be able to select a program that will work perfectly for your needs.
The three most important features that any good registry cleaning program should have are a backup option, the ability to move invalid entries, and having a choice between automatically or manually performing repairs. This list might seem quite small, and there are sure to be other things that may be important to individual people, but no registry cleaning product is worth bothering with if it does not have these three basic characteristics and abilities.
The Ability To Move Invalid Entries
Not all registry cleaners are created equal. How a registry cleaning program works can actually vary considerably. This is especially true with how it deals with invalid entries. As one of the biggest causes of major glitches in computer systems - including annoying pop ups and overall poor performance - invalid entries must not be passed over by a registry cleaner. A good registry cleaner will move invalid entries, allowing your PC to perform optimally.
Backing Up The Registry
Like anything else regarding your computer, things can go wrong. This is true even about registry cleaning products; these programs do not generate the problems, but corrupt entries on your computer’s registry can wreak havoc on your system. Upon running the registry cleaning program, a major error may occur due to these significant issues with certain entries already present within the Windows registry.
If you run a registry cleaning program and one of your applications quits working, you need to be able to essentially “undo” the cleaning that occurred. This is why having a back up option on any registry cleaning program that you buy is so vital. Having this ability will give you the peace of mind of knowing that the changes that you make are reversible, if necessary.
Therefore, make sure that any registry cleaner you choose allows the creation of backups. Skip over any program that does not specifically ensure this capability. Otherwise, you run the risk of having to perform major repairs to your Windows registry; in fact, your computer could end up at the repair shop if something really goes awry and you don’t have a backup of its registry.
Performing Repairs
Registry cleaning programs are powerful tools because they find the errors within your computer’s Windows registry and calculate ways to make the necessary repairs. Most registry cleaning programs will perform these repairs automatically; however, it is important to choose on that also gives you the option of performing the repairs manually yourself. More advanced users will definitely want that ability, as they know what to look for and may prefer having more control. But even total novices should get a program that allows manual repairs; it is always nice to have the option available, should you need it.
